Lymphoedema Support
GENTLE, INDIVIDUALISED CARE FOR YOUR LYMPHATIC HEALTH
60 MIN | $185
90 MIN | $245
Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system is unable to adequately transport lymphatic fluid, resulting in persistent swelling.
It can develop following surgery, cancer treatment, lymph-node removal, radiation, injury, infection or an underlying lymphatic condition.
Living with lymphoedema can affect much more than the size of a limb.
You may experience heaviness, tightness, discomfort, fullness, reduced movement or changes in how your body feels throughout the day.
At Embody, our approach is gentle, personalised and centred around supporting your lymphatic system rather than forcing fluid through the tissues.
What Is Lymphoedema?
Lymphoedema involves an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the tissues and most commonly affects the arms or legs, although other areas can also be affected.
Some people are born with lymphatic differences, while others develop lymphoedema later in life.
It can occur following:
Lymph-node removal or damage
Cancer treatment
Radiation therapy
Surgery
Trauma or injury
Infection
An underlying lymphatic disorder
Lymphoedema can vary considerably from person to person.
Your treatment should reflect that.
How We Support You
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses gentle, rhythmic movements designed to support lymphatic fluid movement through available pathways.
At Embody, MLD is performed according to the principles of the Vodder Method®.
Your treatment may support:
Lymphatic flow
A feeling of heaviness or fullness
Comfort
Tissue mobility
Movement and function
Relaxation
MLD is generally one component of a broader lymphoedema management approach. It isn't a cure for lymphoedema, and results vary between individuals.
Your Treatment May Include
Depending on your individual presentation, your treatment may incorporate:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Gentle fascial techniques where appropriate
Breathing techniques
Movement awareness
Nervous-system-focused care
Every appointment is adapted to your history, presentation and goals.
Working Alongside Your Healthcare Team
Lymphoedema management can involve a number of healthcare professionals.
If you require further assessment or support, we can help guide you towards the appropriate professionals, including medical practitioners, physiotherapists and compression specialists.
COMPRESSION & BANDAGING
Compression is an important part of lymphoedema management for many people.
At this stage, Embody does not replace specialist compression assessment, garment fitting or bandaging services. Where these are required, we can refer you to an appropriate specialist.
As our training and services continue to develop, this area of care may expand in the future.
Cancer & Lymphoedema
Lymphoedema can develop following cancer treatment, lymph-node removal or radiation therapy.
If you have experienced cancer treatment and are experiencing swelling or lymphatic changes, it's important that your care is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Please ensure your medical team is aware of any new or unexplained swelling, particularly following cancer treatment.
We can work alongside your existing healthcare team where appropriate.
Lymphoedema & Lipoedema Are Different
These conditions are often confused, but they aren't the same.
Lymphoedema involves impaired lymphatic transport and accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the tissues.
Lipoedema primarily involves an abnormal distribution and accumulation of adipose tissue and is most commonly seen in women.
They can, however, occur together.
If you're unsure what may be contributing to your symptoms, we can discuss your concerns and recommend appropriate assessment where necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
DO I NEED A DIAGNOSIS TO BOOK?
If you have persistent or unexplained swelling, we recommend medical assessment before beginning treatment. If you've already been diagnosed with lymphoedema, we can discuss whether MLD-based support is appropriate for you.
IS MLD PAINFUL?
MLD is a gentle technique and should not require deep or painful pressure.
CAN MLD CURE LYMPHOEDEMA?
No. Lymphoedema is a chronic condition. MLD can provide supportive care but is generally used as part of a broader management approach.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE TREATMENT?
There isn't one schedule that suits everyone. Frequency depends on your individual circumstances, symptoms and broader management plan.
CAN I HAVE MLD AFTER CANCER TREATMENT?
Potentially, depending on your individual circumstances and medical history. We'll discuss your history before treatment and recommend medical guidance where appropriate.
YOUR BODY DESERVES TO BE SUPPORTED, NOT FORCED
Lymphoedema can be frustrating, particularly when swelling affects how you move and feel in your body.
Our approach is gentle, considered and individualised.
