LYMPHOEDEMA LYMPHATIC CARE
WHOLE-BODY LYMPHATIC SUPPORT FOR LYMPHOEDEMA
When your lymphatic system needs more support.
Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system is unable to move lymph fluid as effectively as it needs to.
It can develop for many different reasons, including lymphatic differences present from birth, surgery, cancer treatment, injury, infection or other changes affecting the lymphatic system.
Lymphoedema can cause swelling, heaviness, tightness and changes in the tissues. Over time, the tissue can become firmer, denser and more fibrotic, making the swelling more difficult to manage.
At Embody, lymphoedema care looks at the whole lymphatic system, not simply the area where swelling is visible.
YOUR TREATMENT
60 MIN — $185
A complete whole-body lymphatic treatment designed to support lymphatic flow and fluid movement throughout the body.
Treatment follows the lymphatic pathways and includes time to work with areas of swelling, heaviness, congestion or tissue changes.
90 MIN — $245
A more comprehensive treatment allowing additional time for whole-body lymphatic work and areas requiring greater attention.
90 minutes is recommended when swelling is more widespread, tissues are denser or fibrotic, or you need more comprehensive lymphatic care.
WHO IS LYMPHOEDEMA LYMPHATIC CARE FOR?
This treatment may be appropriate if you're experiencing:
Ongoing or persistent swelling
A feeling of heaviness, fullness or tightness
Swelling that doesn't completely resolve
A limb that feels different or larger than the other
Dense, firm or fibrotic tissue
Changes in the skin or underlying tissues
Reduced movement or function because of swelling
Primary or secondary lymphoedema
Swelling following surgery or cancer treatment
A lymphatic system that has been compromised
Lymphoedema can look and feel very different from one person to another, which is why treatment is always adapted to your individual presentation.
LYMPHOEDEMA HAS DIFFERENT STAGES
Lymphoedema is generally described in different stages, from early changes through to more established swelling and tissue changes.
In earlier stages, swelling may be softer and more responsive to treatment. As lymphoedema progresses, the tissues can become firmer, denser and increasingly fibrotic.
More established lymphoedema can involve significant changes to the skin and underlying tissues.
Understanding the stage of your lymphoedema helps guide the approach we take and whether you may benefit from standard lymphatic care or a more intensive treatment pathway.
DECONGESTIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY
AN INTENSIVE APPROACH TO LYMPHOEDEMA CARE
For lymphoedema that needs more intensive support, Decongestive Physical Therapy (DPT) brings together several important components of lymphoedema management.
Where appropriate, DPT is undertaken as an intensive treatment program over approximately 2–4 weeks, depending on the stage of lymphoedema, the amount of swelling, the condition of the tissues and how your body responds.
DPT combines:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Compression
Lymphatic strapping or taping
Gentle but deeper work through dense or fibrotic tissue
Movement and exercise guidance
Skin care education
Ongoing lymphoedema management
THE INTENSIVE PHASE
The aim is to reduce congestion, encourage fluid movement and work with changes within the tissues through consistent treatment.
Each session builds on the previous one, allowing your treatment to be adjusted as your body responds.
Compression and/or lymphatic strapping is applied after every DPT treatment session to continue supporting fluid movement and help maintain the changes achieved during treatment.
This combination of hands-on treatment, compression and strapping is an important part of the intensive phase.
As the swelling reduces and the tissues become more manageable, we can then work towards an ongoing maintenance approach.
DPT is not simply a series of lymphatic treatments. It is a structured, intensive approach combining lymphatic treatment, compression, strapping, tissue work, movement and education.
WHOLE-BODY LYMPHATIC CARE
Even when swelling is most noticeable in one limb or particular area, the lymphatic system is a connected network.
Treatment therefore begins by preparing and supporting the lymphatic pathways and lymph nodes throughout the body before working more specifically with areas of congestion.
I use Manual Lymphatic Drainage using the Vodder Method®, together with gentle but more purposeful hands-on techniques where appropriate.
When tissue has become dense or fibrotic, I can work deeper while still maintaining a gentle approach.
There is no need to force the tissue or use aggressive pressure.
The aim is to work with the tissue, encourage movement and support the lymphatic pathways.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your appointment begins with a conversation about your lymphoedema, your history and what you're experiencing.
I'll consider where your swelling is present, the condition of your tissues and what type of support may be most appropriate.
The treatment itself combines gentle rhythmic lymphatic techniques with more purposeful tissue work where appropriate.
You may experience very light MLD through some areas, while denser or fibrotic tissue may require deeper, controlled hands-on work.
If you're undertaking DPT, your treatment will also include the compression and/or strapping required after each session.
SUPPORTING YOUR LYMPHATIC SYSTEM
Lymphoedema is often something that needs ongoing management rather than a single treatment.
Treatment can be supported by compression, movement, exercise, skin care and appropriate medical care.
My aim is to help you understand what is happening within your body, support your lymphatic system and give you practical strategies for managing your lymphoedema between treatments.
WHY VODDER METHOD®?
The Vodder Method® is a specific approach to Manual Lymphatic Drainage developed around the anatomy and pathways of the lymphatic system.
The techniques are gentle, precise and rhythmic rather than forceful.
I've completed Manual Lymphatic Drainage — Vodder Method® Level 1 & Level 2, with Level 2 training including lipoedema, lymphoedema, compromised lymphatic systems, compression therapy, lymphatic taping, movement and client management.
AT EMBODY, WE SLOW DOWN
Lymphoedema can be complex, and your treatment shouldn't feel rushed.
We'll take the time to understand what's happening with your body, where you're at with your lymphoedema and what level of support you need.
Whether you need ongoing lymphatic care or a more intensive DPT approach, we'll work from where your body is now.
60 OR 90 MINUTES?
60 MINUTES — $185
Choose 60 minutes for ongoing lymphatic care or when you need a complete treatment with focused attention.
90 MINUTES — $245
Choose 90 minutes when you have more widespread swelling, denser or fibrotic tissue, or would like more comprehensive treatment.
IF YOU'RE UNSURE, I RECOMMEND 90 MINUTES.
NOT SURE WHERE TO START?
If you're unsure whether you're experiencing lipoedema, lymphoedema or another form of swelling or fluid congestion, you don't have to work it out before booking.
LIPOEDEMA & LYMPHOEDEMA CONSULTATION
45 MIN — $85
A dedicated consultation to talk through your symptoms, history and concerns, and help you understand what type of lymphatic support may be appropriate for you.
We can discuss your experience with swelling, heaviness, tissue changes, lipoedema or lymphoedema, previous treatment, compression and whether a more intensive approach such as Decongestive Physical Therapy (DPT) may be appropriate.
If compression is part of your care, we can also discuss your options and whether a separate compression measurement appointment is needed.
NEED COMPRESSION?
COMPRESSION CONSULTATION & MEASUREMENT
30 MIN — $60
A dedicated appointment for compression garment selection and professional measurement.
We'll discuss the type of compression that may be appropriate for you, take the required measurements and help you understand your options.
Compression garments are purchased separately and are not included in the consultation fee.
